BSB Mourns the Loss of Champion, Steve Hislop
31 July 2003
British Motorsport Promoters (BMP) would like to offer
their sincerest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of
reigning British Superbike champion Steve Hislop, who was tragically
killed on Wednesday in a helicopter accident in his native Scotland.
The 41 year old Scot was a two-time British Superbike
champion having first won the title in 1995. He won his second British
title last year with 7 race victories.
Having recovered from a broken neck, Steve also incredibly went on to
win 11 races and finished runner-up in the 2001 championship, despite
his season ending as a result of leg injuries.
BSB Series Director Jos Foulston said: “Steve was
an incredibly talented and resilient motorcycle racer who was greatly
admired by the racing fraternity and fans alike. He was a highly respected
Champion, whom we were looking forward to see return to the series with
a new team. It’s a tragic loss and the championship will not be
the same without him. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at
this time”.
