Will MitchamSnetterton Date for Caterham Challengers

07 July 2005

There’s a major home-ground battle in store next Sunday (17 Jul) at Snetterton in Norfolk, where two race-winning rivals from Bury St Edmunds will go head to head in the Powertrain Caterham Challenge.

They are R400 racers Will Mitcham and Ben Dezille Butler, each of whom has taken two race victories already. Thirty-year-old Will, whose car is prepared in the Haverhill workshops of Taylor’s Foundry Motor Sport, leads the championship fight by an 11-point margin from Londoner Nick Payne, one of the squad from Hyperion Motorsport, based in nearby Little Maplestead.

Dezille Butler – the double winner at Thruxton last time out – holds fourth place overall.

Adding spice to proceedings at Snetterton will be the return of David Dyson, who won both Donington rounds in April, and also of Roadsport double champion James Bromley, who will race alongside Jack Newland in the Ultimate Motorsport team at the wheel of an R400 for the first time.

Rachel Green, second at Thruxton in May, will be in action also, bidding to become the first female R400 race victor.

Grand Prix TV journalist and former Williams F1 team manager Peter Windsor will be making his seasonal debut at the wheel of a Caterham; Windsor last drove a year ago at Silverstone and will once more race with Team Parker in a Roadsport A.

Graham Fennymore will be bidding to maintain his 100% victory record in his Roadsport and continue his progress towards the class championship. The former Formula Ford and British F2000 Champion currently enjoys a 23-point advantage over Derby driver James Gardiner.

Norwich-based Malcolm Barnett, the reigning Caterham Super-Graduate Champion, has finished second to Fennymore four times out of six and will be hoping to bring Graham’s winning streak to a close on his home track.

Backing for the championship comes from Arch Motors, Autosport, Bilstein, Comma, Cooper-Avon Tyres, HSBC Insurance Brokers, Mitchell Cotts, PTP and Stack.
