Classic Racer Takes on Record-Breaking Seven Events in One Day

Motorsport drivers are notorious for pushing themselves to the limit, but amateur racer Roger Wills will be mounting the challenge of a lifetime this Bank Holiday Monday (31 May) when he takes on a record breaking seven different races in a single day at the Brands Hatch Masters Historic Festival!

The New Zealand-born businessman, who is now based in Moscow, will be piloting machinery ranging from a 1960s Mini to a classic Formula One car, and racing for more than four hours during the course of the day.

Roger Wills said: “Whenever I race I want to maximise the weekend if I can and do as much as I can. This time though, it is looking really ridiculous! However it’s a unique opportunity, the cars are great and we’re very fortunate to be out playing with them.”

His day will begin with an outing in the Grand Prix Masters series for classic F1 vehicles of the 1970s and early 1980s. Roger will be driving a Williams Formula One car once raced by Belgian star Jacky Ickx, which made its debut at the 1976 French Grand Prix.

Wills will also be piloting a powerful historic 1967 McLaren supercar in the World Sportscar Masters Series for classic sportscars of the 1960s and 70s, and a 1975 BMW 3.5CL touring car – known as a ‘batmobile’ because of its distinctive shape - in the Interserie competition.

Roger will then end the day by teaming up with fellow classic racer Joe Twyman for outings in a 1965 McLaren M1B sports car and a 1960s Mini.

“I’ll be tired at the end of the day, but it’s a real treat. I get pleasure from all the cars and they are all great fun to drive,” Wills concluded.

The Masters Historic Festival is one of the biggest historic racing events in the country, taking place over three days at Brands Hatch, starting with the ‘Top Hat’ saloon car celebration on the Indy circuit this Saturday before moving over to the Grand Prix configuration. The Bank Holiday weekend will feature racing from classic sports cars, saloons and single seaters dating back as far as the 1950s.
