Brands Hatch Set for Spectacular Summer of Motorsport

Superleague Formula Team LiverpoolThe Kent venue will host three major international and national events in just four weekends – and all of them on the legendary full 2.3 mile Grand Prix circuit – commencing with a double headline meeting from the FIA World Touring Car and Formula Two Championships on 16/17/18 July.

Among the World Touring Car stars competing next month will be a quartet of UK talents vying for strong results on home turf against international competition including France’s Yvan Muller, Switzerland’s Alain Menu and Italy’s Gabriele Tarquini. Leading the British charge will be triple WTCC champion Andy Priaulx from Guernsey in his BMW 320si, who currently lies third in the title chase ahead of fellow Briton, Chevrolet’s Rob Huff.

Reigning British Touring Car champion Colin Turkington from Northern Ireland has recently announced he will be joining the grid too, piloting a BMW 320si with the WSR team that steered him to his 2009 BTCC title.

There will also be Union Flags flying in Formula Two, as Sussex youngster Jolyon Palmer – son of Brands Hatch owner Jonathan Palmer – is currently leading the title race ahead of Southampton’s Dean Stoneman following an impressive double victory at Monza in Italy last month. Palmer, Stoneman and several other UK drivers will be taking on rising international stars such as Lithuania’s Kazim Vasiliauskas and Austria’s Philipp Eng as the title chase intensifies.

Two weeks later on 31 July/1 August, Superleague Formula, a fusion of motorsport and football, will make its Brands Hatch debut.

A powerful fleet of 750bhp V12-powered single seaters will bear the colours of leading international football teams, including UK clubs Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur, as they go head-to-head over three races.

A number of famous F1 faces will be competing in Superleague Formula at Brands Hatch, including Sebastien Bourdais and Narain Karthikeyan, and the series will be supported by thundering Group C sportscars, the Lotus Cup Europe and the GT Cup Championship.

The following weekend (6/7/8 August) Brands Hatch will host the biggest round on the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship calendar.

In a change to the normal format there will be three races over the weekend, with an additional contest taking place on the Saturday after qualifying. Thousands of fans will stay at the venue’s campsite over the three days and enjoy the live music, huge trade and merchandise area and the superb atmosphere that has become associated with superbike racing at Brands Hatch in August.

And the title fight is hotting up as Lingfield racer Tommy Hill, HM Plant Honda’s Josh Brookes and Relentless Suzuki’s Michael Laverty are all aiming to outgun their rivals and claim a crucial championship advantage.
