With the new motorsport season fast approaching Rockingham has announced its 2012 race calendar which will feature action on both two and four wheels with the return of motorbike racing to the Northamptonshire circuit.
The UK’s second largest bike racing series, Thundersport GB returns to the venue over the weekend of July 28/29 and will be the first championship series to race on Rockingham’s newest track configuration – the 1.94-mile International Motorcycle Circuit.
The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship leads the action on four wheels and will again be the headline race meeting when it returns in the autumn. Rockingham hosts Round Eight of the UK’s premier tin-top series over the weekend of September 22/23.
It’s a summer date for the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series & Avon Tyres British GT Championship, where some of the world’s future Formula One stars will be on show at the circuit on June 9/10.
Rockingham Chief Executive Charlotte Orton said: “Once again we have secured some great race meetings this year from grass roots motorsport through to the UK’s most premier motor racing series. We are also delighted to welcome motorcycle racing back to Rockingham.”
To mark the start of the season, and to reinforce the circuit’s commitment to making motor racing accessible and affordable to all fans, Rockingham is reducing its gate adult admission price to just £10 for the BARC season opener on May 19/20, the first of three visits in 2012.
The British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC) will also be visiting three times this season with its club race weekends. These will be held on June 30/July 1; August 18/19 and October 6/7.
All race weekends operate an open paddock and Rockingham has raised its child admission policy to offer free entry to children aged 16 and under. Advance tickets can be purchased on-line at www.rockingham.co.uk or via the ticket hotline on 01536 500500.
