The 2012 Season Starts Here
The last week has seen a flurry of activity as championships big and small held their annual media days and opening tests, with some already even getting down to racing proper. The British Touring Car Championship heads strongly into a new all-turbo generation and this year boasts 10 models from nine different marques on its 24-car grid, including the technicolour liveried return of the MG name.
The BTCC season opener hits Brands Hatch on 1st April, followed a week later by the first rounds of the British GT Championship and the British F3 International Series at Oulton Park. While some single-seater formulae have struggled in recent times - Formula Renault postponing its UK series due to poor entries - British F3 continues to attract young talent. With recent champions including the Scuderia Toro Rosso pairing of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne, its status as a stepping-stone to Formula 1 is hard to dispute.

One of the major developments this season is the opening of a new spectator viewing area at Britten’s Hairpin. For the first time ever, motorsport fans will have access to this section of the circuit, which offers spectators an impressive view over almost 3/4 mile of circuit from Island Bend through Shell Oils Corner and Hill Top.
Oulton Park visitors will also enjoy a new menu in Chequers restaurant this year, as MSV has taken over the catering facilities for the on-site restaurant as part of its commitment to improving the value, range and quality of the food service at the circuit.
There will also be a separate quiet camping area for families attending race meetings this season.
Simon Bonser, Oulton Park circuit manager, said: “We have worked very hard over the winter to make sure that visiting Oulton Park in 2010 will be an even more pleasurable experience for the tens of thousands of visitors that will come through our gates.
“Over the past few years, more and more spectators have begun to take advantage of our superb camping amenities at the circuit, so it’s very important to MSV that our visitors can enjoy tasty food, clean facilities and a quiet and safe environment during their stay.”
Oulton Park’s developments will complement a strong racing calendar for the Cheshire circuit, which begins with a double headline meeting from the British F3 and GT Championships over Easter weekend (3/5 April).
For the second consecutive year, Oulton Park will host two rounds of the MCE British Superbike Championship including the season finale in October. More than 20 riders have already signed up for this year’s competition including former British and World Superbike champion Neil Hodgson, who will make his much-anticipated return to UK soil with the Motorpoint Yamaha team.
Other highlights include the Modified Live performance car festival in April, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and the Vintage Sports Car Festival in May, and the Oulton Park Gold Cup – a celebration of historic sports cars, single seaters and saloon cars – over August Bank Holiday weekend.
Tickets are currently on sale for several of the circuit’s major 2010 events, whilst an Oulton Park season pass – guaranteeing entry to all race meetings at Oulton Park this season – is also available for just £125.
In addition, MotorSport Vision is offering race fans a free copy of its 2010 fixture guide, containing information on all events taking place at Oulton Park and other MSV circuits this season, by calling 0870 950 9000.
