The 2012 Season Starts Here

2012-03-new-season-media-passThe last week has seen a flurry of activity as championships big and small held their annual media days and opening tests, with some already even getting down to racing proper. The British Touring Car Championship heads strongly into a new all-turbo generation and this year boasts 10 models from nine different marques on its 24-car grid, including the technicolour liveried return of the MG name.

The BTCC season opener hits Brands Hatch on 1st April, followed a week later by the first rounds of the British GT Championship and the British F3 International Series at Oulton Park. While some single-seater formulae have struggled in recent times - Formula Renault postponing its UK series due to poor entries - British F3 continues to attract young talent. With recent champions including the Scuderia Toro Rosso pairing of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne, its status as a stepping-stone to Formula 1 is hard to dispute.

Sportscar Aces Join Forces to Create NJ Performance

The pair, who have been firm friends since their days together at LMP1 squad Creation Autosportif, will channel their combined 30 years experience as professional racing drivers into helping up and coming racers reach their full potential, both on and off-track.

As well as assisting the stars of the future, NJ Performance will also specialise in helping gentleman drivers who, be it starting out or striving for greater speed and consistency, require a patient and highly knowledgeable guiding hand they can trust.

Private testing will also provide a backbone to the new enterprise with NJ Performance offering a reliable, professional and comprehensive shakedown and testing service of brand new, newly acquired and classic racing machinery.

In addition, the duo will be utilising their considerable understanding of off-track commitments that accompany any modern racing driver to full effect by making themselves available for personal appearances, product launches and endorsements, sponsor functions, exhibitions and dinner parties.

Nicolas Minassian said: “NJ Performance represents a fantastic opportunity to help out those looking to take their racing to the next level. Between us, we’ve got an awful lot of experience from junior category single seaters to F1 and IndyCars, as well as every class of GTs, prototypes, touring cars and even classic racing cars. There aren’t that many other individuals or companies out there that can match that level of diversity whilst still racing at the highest level. I’d like to think therefore that we’re well placed to help out those who require it.”

Jamie Campbell-Walter added: “Whilst we’ve been racing at the highest level for a number of years, we’ve both also been busy testing a variety of machinery. One week for instance I could be driving the Abu Dhabi two-seater F1 car, and the next shaking down the latest prototype sportscar for a client. It’s that, as well as our understanding of off-track commitments like functions and product launches, that steered us towards creating NJ Performance as an umbrella for our activities.”

Although colleagues away from the circuit, the pair will be very much rivals this weekend when both contest the annual charity karting event at the Autosport International exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC.
