MG
Takes Top Honours in The Rally of The Midlands
20 May 2003
Gwyndaf Evans headed up a clean sweep and 100% finish
for the MG team at the weekend as he took a Class win and overall victory
in his MG ZR Super1600 in The Rally of the Midlands (17/18 May).
Gwyndaf, co-driven by Clare Mole, achieved top spot from over 40 entries
on a weekend which saw the streets of Nuneaton, Bedworth, Hinckley and
Atherstone turned into rally stages. The event was an ideal opportunity
for some valuable testing on tarmac in preparation for the season ahead.
Finishing top of the class after 18 stages Gwyndaf said: "I'm
very happy to have won the very first Rally of the Midlands. It was
a good event for myself, MG and the organisers. The car ran faultlessly
and it's a great feeling to come away with a win."
Class honours were taken by Tim Seipel (Class 1) and Rob Stone (Class
3) who competed in Group N MG ZR's. Runner-up in Class 3 was another
MG ZR driven by Don Kettleborough.
The rally was staged following a unique partnership known as Motorsport
in the Midlands, an initiative that sees backing from local councils
and authorities. It is the same partnership which sees MG Sport &
Racing supporting the recently launched MG
ZR Rally Scholarship scheme.
