MG ZR Wins Class in 9 hour race
30 June 2003
MG ZRs finished 5th and 6th overall and 1st & 2nd
in their class from a field of over thirty starters in the Willhire
nine hour endurance race at Snetterton in Norfolk on Sat 28th June.
Fiona Leggatt only started racing this year in the Mayflower
Challenge series for MG ZR and TFs. She drove at the formidable grand
prix circuit at Spa in Belgium earlier this month, where she spun off
at the awe- inspiring Eau Rouge corner. This weekend she joined forces
with fellow series competitors Barry Benham and Colin Wilmot in a last
minute entry and came home in 5th place overall and 2nd in class 3.
The less powerful MG ZR 160 was driven to a magnificent
win in class 4 and 6th overall by Andrew Dunlop and father and son John+Mark
Hammersley, making this their third win out of three races this year.
Andrew’s Dad, Martin Dunlop said: “It was
an absolutely brilliant result for us and MG. To finish so close behind
the other MG after such a long race was fantastic.
