Big Test for MG on Jim Clark Rally
04 July 2003
The successful partnership of Gwyndaf Evans / Claire Mole
and the Creative Media Communications MG ZR continues for this weekend
on the Jim Clark Memorial Rally, third round of the British Rally Championship
(BRC). The event is centred around Claire's home town of Duns near Edinburgh
and her knowledge of the local roads will be vital as the team takes
on a strong entry in the Super 1600 category with entries from Peugeot,
Opel, Ford, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Renault.
The three day event starts on Friday evening, July 4
in Edinburgh and will have covered over 150 competitive miles on 25
special stages by the end on Sunday afternoon.
The rally has a strong international flavour, especially
those competing in the World Rally Car (WRC), two litre turbocharged,
category, with teams from Norway and Finland and a large contingent
from the Irish tarmac championship.
Gwyndaf and Claire won the Super 1600 class in the MG
ZR on the last BRC round, The Scottish Rally, and achieved a fine 5th
place overall ahead of many WRC cars.
Brian Griffin MG Motorsport Operations Manager said:
"The last rally was primarily a gravel event which requires a different
suspension package from an asphalt set up. We also made several smaller
revisions to the geometry in recent testing which produced very positive
results. The team produced a strong performance on the Scottish Rally
last month and we hope to build on that this weekend."
