Celbrities 'Rock' at Rockingham - Formula
One Style
26 August 2003
To cap off a sizzling August, all your favourite celebrities will gather
at Rockingham on Sunday 31st to enjoy Minardi Formula One racing and
a performance from rock favourites, The Darkness.
Jay
Kay, Teddy Sheringham and Matthew Upson are amongst the celebrities
who will witness the high performance racing. And that’s not all,
they’ve also jumped at the chance to be spun around the track
by professional drivers in one of the only two seater Formula One cars
in the world!
After the excitement on the track with Formula One and V8 American
saloon car racing, Formula One pit-stop demonstrations, autograph sessions,
a fun fair, plus other activities, the celebs will watch a live performance
by The Darkness. Dubbed the "greatest rock'n'roll band of the last
twenty years" by Kerrang! – they also won two awards at the
Kerrang Awards – this music phenomenon wowed the crowd as one
of Robbie Williams’ support acts at this year’s Knebworth
concert.
This collection of music, sport and glamour will provide fans with
their best chance of seeing the hottest names in one place and seeing
live action from The Darkness, who’ve nearly sold all tickets
for their 16-stop national tour!
Ashley Pover, Rockingham’s CEO comments: “Not only are
The Darkness one of the most exciting bands of the moment, they’ll
be watched by household names here at Rockingham! Formula One racing,
The Darkness and big, big names – it’ll be a fantastic weekend
and we’re expecting record crowds.”
Practice runs for the cars will take place on Friday, August 29, with
a whole weekend of action-packed fun to follow. Among the leading drivers
who have already confirmed their attendance are current Minardi Formula
One team-mates Jos Verstappen and Nicolas Kiesa, the team’s test
driver Gianmaria “Gimmy” Bruni, top Indy Racing League oval
racer Bryan Herta from the USA and F3000 race winners Giorgio Pantano
and David Saelens, both tipped for Formula One stardom.
