Rollcentre fly in New Car from USA for Spa
26 August 2003
The Rollcentre Racing team has gone to enormous lengths to contest
round ten of the BRDC British GT Championship at Spa-Francorchamps on
31 August. The team has flown in a replacement Mosler MT900R from the
USA for the event in order to give Tom Herridge a shot at claiming the
overall title.
After a torrid couple of weeks, which involved accidents in testing
at Castle Combe and in the British GT race at Thruxton, the team will
go to Spa with the MT900R that it used in the Daytona 24-hours earlier
this year."Our car took a 7G hit almost head on into a barrier
at Thruxton," explains team boss Martin Short. "It stood up
to the impact incredibly well, but unfortunately the tub has got a crack
in it, and its not the work of a week to put it right." Having
thought they may have to miss the Spa race, another solution arose.
"The Mosler factory stepped in and has allowed us to use its own
car whilst we rebuild ours."The car was airfreighted from Miami
and the Rollcentre crew collected it from Heathrow on Saturday morning.
With the team's own engine and gearbox fitted, the car is scheduled
to leave for Spa on Thursday morning.
Joining Short and Herridge in the car at Spa will be Joao Barbosa,
the works Mosler driver and a class winner at Daytona in February. "We
are all keen to give Tom the best support possible for his and our championship
aspirations," says Short. "We just hope that our run of bad
luck has now passed and we can get back on track."
