28-Car British GT Entry for Brands
13
September 2003
The biggest entry of the 2003 season is lining up for the final round
of the BRDC British GT Championship at Brands Hatch (27/28 September).
The current entry list totals 28 cars, and could grow even further over
the next few days.
All of the championship regulars are entered for the 75-minute race
on the awesome Grand Prix circuit at Brands, which is widely regarded
as one of the finest drivers' circuits in Europe. At the head of the
championship, three cars will go head to head in what promises to be
a tense and dramatic conclusion to the season. Shaun Balfe/Jamie Derbyshire
(Balfe Motorsport Mosler MT900R), Tom Herridge (Rollcentre Racing Mosler
MT900R) and Piers Johnson/Shane Lynch (Eclipse Motorsport TVR T400R)
are all title contenders.
New to the 2003 championship and making a very welcome return to British
GT is the Chevrolet Camaro of Andrew Chester, who will be partnered
by Fred Moss in the mighty 6-litre machine. Chester's striking car was
a popular feature of the championship in 2000 and has since been substantially
rebuilt for British GT racing once more.
Also due back after missing much of the season is the Marcos LM600
of Gerry Taylor and Paul Stevens from Taylor's Foundry Motorsport, while
Robin Ward and Marco Attard will again enter the Damax Ferrari 360 N-GT
in the top class.
The GT Cup class continues to break records and has drawn a fabulous
17-car entry for Brands, with all the regular contenders joined by a
gaggle of newcomers. As ever, the Porsche 911GT3 Cup cars from Gruppe
M/Tech 9 and the Morgan Aero 8s from Richard Thorne Motorsport and Team
Aero are likely to set the GT Cup standard.
The Virgo Motorsport Ferrari 360 of Jim McWhirter/Martyn Sims will
be out for the second time this season, while the Xero Competition Chevrolet
Corvette of Alan Bonner/Mark Jones will be a welcome addition to the
field after being forced to miss the Thruxton race last month.
Tony Soper/Rob West from Le Mans Motorsport will give their Alfa Romeo
GTV V6 its British GT debut while the Lotus pack will include no less
than five of the Elise and Exige models, including championship newcomers
Chris Shandell and Dean Lanzante from Team Lanzante.
"This is a great way to end the season," said a championship
spokesperson. "The entry level, particularly in GT Cup, is very
encouraging for the future, and it should make for a great spectacle
at Brands."
