Eaglings Team Up for British GT Final
15 September 2003
Glenn Eagling will make his BRDC British GT Championship debut at Brands
Hatch on 28 September when he will partner his son Dan in their Marcos
Mantis GTO. Eagling senior has not raced a full season for more than
a decade, but has tackled occasional races in Clubmans since then.
"I won't get many more chances to race on the Brands GP circuit,"
says Glenn. "That's one of the reasons. I've got to go out and
buy a new crash helmet, mine is out of date!"
Eagling, 48, started racing in 1972 in Formula Ford in a Lotus 61 and
raced extensively in FF1600, Clubmans and then raced in Formula Vauxhall
in 1992. In recent seasons he has concentrated on his race car preparation
team and supporting the career of his son Dan, a finalist in the BRDC/McLaren/Autosport
young driver of the year award. Dan is now widely regarded as one of
the rising stars of the championship and recently earned the 76 Racing
Fuels GT driver of the day award for his outstanding performance with
the Racesport TVR T400R at Spa-Francorchamps.
"I had two laps in the car last week and we'll test again at Snetterton
on Friday," says Eagling senior, who has won countless races and
several championships during his career.
The teaming up of the Eaglings for this race represents a rare father
and son combo in British GT, although Patrick and Marc Charlton have
raced together in their GT Cup Lotus Elise this season and will be back
in action for the Brands race.
