MG Racers Visit Top F1 Circuit
04 June 2004
The MG Trophy is one of the most closely fought and
popular race series in the UK motor sports calendar. The powerful MG
ZR 160 hatch backs and MG TF sports cars have already wowed the crowds
at some of the best circuits in the UK, including Silverstone and Rockingham,
and now the show is
off to Europe on 4-6th June to race on the awesome Spa
Francorchamps F1 circuit in Belgium.
Spa is one of the fastest race circuits anywhere
in the world and the MGs will be reaching speeds of 130+ mph (210 kph).
The track also presents one of the world's most challenging bends at
Eau Rouge which many a driver has tried to take flat out and come away
with a bent motor car. Fiona Leggate in her first season of competition
did just that last year in her MG ZR, but she was back at the next
race and is now driving better than
ever. She is bound to be challenging for a top six place this time.
Trying
his best to beat her, along with the rest, will be Director of Engineering
at MG Rover, Rob Oldaker. Driving a ZR, one of the products he helped
to bring to market he is out to prove that one of the best ways to
test a motor car is in on the race track.
Rob Oldaker said: " The
MG ZR and TF have the same engines, the ZR in the front and TF behind
the driver, but they are very evenly matched. Nearly thirty of these
cars slipstreaming each other around such a magnificent circuit will
be quite a spctacle".
