Girl Power on the Double at Oulton Park
03 July 2004
The Powertrain Caterham R400 Challenge - prior to this season the
exclusive preserve of the male driver - will feature two women competitors
in its next event.
Twenty-one-year-old Sarah Reader and former Caterham Graduate Champion
Rachel Green are both planning to be on the grid for the Oulton Park
rounds on 18 July. Reader made her championship debut in April, but
Oulton will be 33-year-old Green's first UK outing in Caterham's top-level
sports car.
Said Rachel: "I'm looking forward to it immensely, but also with
some trepidation because it will be my first time ever racing on slick
tyres. An altogether new experience, and it will be great to have Sarah
on the grid as well."
Sarah and Rachel have extensive Caterham racing experience, both of
them having started their careers in the Caterham Academy in 2000.
Old Harlow, Essex-based Rachel went on to win the Caterham Graduates
Championship in 2002, while Sarah, from Loxley, Warwickshire, went
on to success in the Autosport Caterham Eurocup, taking third place
in the Roadsport division last year. Both Green and Reader are this
season focusing on R400 campaigns in the Eurocup.
Oulton Park will also mark the championship debut of the Fauldsport
team, with whom Green races. Her Fauldsport team-mate, Simon Lambert,
will also be in action.
"
I'm looking forward to Oulton and my first time in an R400 on Avon
slick tyres," said 34-year-old Lambert. "I won there last
year in Caterham Super-Graduates and it's an awesome circuit."
Welwyn-based Lambert won Super-Graduate championship titles in 2002
and '03, and currently holds third place overall in the Eurocup
following his twin wins at Oschersleben in Germany last month.
Backing for the championship comes from Powertrain Ltd, Autosport,
Arch Motors, Bilstein, Comma, Cooper-Avon Tyres, Fairmont Insurance,
Harrington Generators International, MG XPOWER, Mitchell Cotts,
PTP and Stack.
