Dates Announced for 2005 British Rally Championship
01 October 2004
The 2005 MSA British
Rally Championship (BRC) calendar has been ratified by the Motor Sports
Association (MSA) offering classic British International calibre rallying
on the best available stages at eight venues across the UK, many easily
accessible to large parts of the UK population, starting with the unique
BRC Live! event in the heart of England.
"This year has seen real growth in the British Rally Championship
and everyone involved is determined to ensure the energy and excitement
is sustained for 2005", confirmed Mark Taylor, Championship
Manager. "We
have had enormous support and commitment from the teams and the events
for 2004 and I feel confident that the 2005 programme will encourage
even more participation."
The BRC remains a true test of driver skills on gravel and tarmac
events and allows those who wish to progress to the higher echelons
of the
sport to gain experience of longer events with reconnaissance.
BRC Live 2005 bursts into life on 9th April in Nuneaton with more
rally action, live demonstrations, prize giveaways and an action-packed
day out for all the
family. The whole day will be rounded off with an evening concert, featuring
a live band.
Building on its success in 2004, the Rally of Wales has moved to become
the series opener for the 2005 British Rally Championship, with the
Pirelli International
Rally running later in May. The Scottish Rally retains its mid June date and
adds another 35 stage miles to its route. In order to avoid a date clash
with the British Grand Prix and pending the FIA World Council meeting mid October,
the Jim Clark has moved to the second weekend in July. The Trackrod has moved
back a week to allow more time after Wales Rally GB and with the South of England
Tempest Rally being the last round on 5th November, the 2005 BRC will offer more
competitive miles than any other UK rally championship.
“Building on the success of the 2004 British Rally Championship and following
further review and consultation with competitors and teams during this season,
the 2005 BRC features further changes designed to meet the needs of the events,
the sponsors, competitors and spectators alike”, concluded Mark Taylor. “There
are also a lot of exciting developments which are currently ‘work in progress’ adding
more detail, extra facilities and features, and news of these will follow in
the next two months. We intend to make the 2005 BRC a vintage year.”
