British Rally Championship Launches BRC Formula
2000 Rally Championship
15 November 2004
Recognising that the British Rally Championship
needs a true starter category, the BRC Formula 2000 series has been
introduced for 2005. A public seminar for interested competitors
and teams will take place at the David Sutton Historic Motorsport Museum
just off junction 16 of the M1 at Daventry on Friday 26th November
2004. The doors open at 2.00pm and close at 5.30pm.
"This new Formula 2000 Championship will be for competitors
who want to test and develop their skills on the first rung of the
International and BRC
ladder but in an affordable and controlled category", confirmed Mark
Taylor, Championship Manager. "With one firm eye on keeping
costs down the new Championship will be open to homologated Group N front wheel
drive cars
up to 2000cc and one make car category cars from the Fiat Stilo Cup and Peugeot
206 series."
Representatives from the relevant categories will answer questions
and show competitors and teams around rally cars that are eligible
to compete in the
series, including
the Fiat Stilo, Ford Focus, Peugeot 206 Gti180, MG ZR and Renault Clio Sport.
"We are delighted that David Sutton has kindly given us
the opportunity to launch the new BRC Formula 2000 Rally Championship
in such prestigious surroundings",
concluded Mark Taylor. "Some of the Championship winning rally
cars on show provide a fitting backdrop to this new starter category for
International
rally drivers and co-drivers."
The David Sutton Historic Motorsport Museum has assembled a collection
of the finest rally cars in the world over the last three decades.
Many of these
cars
have won major events around the world. The list of cars includes the Audi
Quattro, Mini Cooper, Ford, Volvo, Lancia, Renault, Alpine, Peugeot, Talbot
Sunbeam, Lotus,
and many others. The museum is open free of charge to the general public,
motor clubs, and other organisations, but is strictly by appointment only.
More details about the Seminar can be found on www.brcweb.co.uk. Details
