Mouth Watering Display of Historic Cars at
Autosport International
13 December 2004
The new Historic Hall at Autosport International 2005, 13-16 January,
promises to delight NEC visitors with an array of beautiful cars on
display together with sought-after memorabilia, paintings and models
from halcyon racing days gone past.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust will exhibit at Autosport International for
the first time in 2005 to present a collection of the most significant Jaguars
which have competed or won at Le Mans. Jaguar’s success at Le Mans stretches
back over fifty years and the marque claimed victories in 1951, 1953, 1955, 1956,
1957 and again in 1988 and 1990.
Maverick Motorsport, based in Oxfordshire, will be bringing a spectacular display
of cars to the new Historic Hall. Heading the line-up will be the 1974 F1 car
TS16, known as the Matchbox Surtees, driven by Derek Bell and Jochen Mass. Also
on display is an exceptionally rare sportscar, the only one in the country, the
1964 Elva Mark 7. Fitted with a Porsche 4-cam engine it is the only car that
Porsche has allowed to use its name, hence the Elva Porsche. Maverick will also
present a 1961 Lotus 20 Formula Junior driven by Pat Pigott and Pete Lovely,
which won Sebring in 1962. Completing the line-up will be a 1970 Brabham F2 BT30
driven by Rolf Stomellen.
Tour Britannia will introduce an exciting new race tour for historic cars at
the show. This new and unique event on the British motorsport calendar will run
from 5-8 September 2005. Based in the heart of England it will provide the opportunity
for owners of pre-1976 road legal cars to compete in a high-quality fixture that
tours some of the country’s most prominent venues. Tour Britannia, which
also celebrates 100 years of British motor sporting heritage, will run annually
in association with the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC). Cars featured
on their stand will include a 1938 Lancia Aprilia and a 1962 Porsche 356B Super
90.
Chameleon, a new organisation based in Devon specialising in renting classic
sportscars, will launch a new members club at Autosport International. One of
the features of their stand will be the 1966 replica of the GT40 from Le Mans
in Gulf racing colours, which was featured at Goodwood last year.
Three rows of stands will be dedicated to Autojumble and Memorabilia selling
books, prints, catalogues and magazines from yesteryear in Hall 11. Other companies
confirmed include Eltons, First Step Books, The GB Motor Company, Guy Smith Motorsport,
David Thomas Motoring Books and Drivepast to name but a few.
The new Artist Village will be headlined by LAT Photographic, who is sponsoring
a 35-metre wall in the area that will feature some stunning pictures from the
archive representing the entire history of motorsport. LAT will also be selling
prints of these images and there will be two internet connections on stand 11970
to allow visitors to search and browse the online archive.
Three specialist companies, John Shinton Models, Triple M and Javan Smiths Presentation
Models, will present magnificent scale models in the Historic Hall. Originally
trained as a Patternmaker in the Midlands, John Shinton went on to become the
wind tunnel model maker for the Tom Walkinshaw Racing Jaguar Team and also worked
with Ross Brawn on the Jaguar XJR 14. Specialising in exquisite and intricate
1/8th scale models, John is currently producing the Lola T-70 Mk3B, in addition
to the Chaparral 2F.
Specialising in Austin Healey models and memorabilia, Triple M will be showing
1/8th scale models of the Austin Healey 100, 100M and 100S, produced in conjunction
with John Shinton. Extremely detailed and accurate replicas, these models can
be customised to the clients’ bespoke requirements. Javan Smiths Presentation
Models has a large range of 1/8th scale classic and historic racing cars, including
the E.R.A., Porsche 917 and Jaguar D-Type. They also make a 1/5th scale model
