World Exclusive Beamed to Autosport International
16 January 2005
Thousands of visitors poured into Autosport International
yesterday (Sunday 16 January) at the NEC, Birmingham, to see the exclusive
live
unveiling of the Lucky Strike BAR Honda 007 Formula 1 car, beamed by
satellite from Barcelona. The live transmission began at 11.00am with
the awesome sound of the Honda engine from inside the garage and then
the doors were opened as Jenson Button took the new car for a few laps
of the Spanish Catalunya circuit.
The live transmission was a “first” at the Autosport show
and the 30-minute broadcast included an exclusive interview with Jenson
as he stepped out of the car wishing all his British fans a great day
at the show. The Autosport show attracted top names from the world
of motorsport including David Coulthard, Mark Webber, Ross Brawn, Eddie
Irvine, who had flown in from New York, Allan McNish, Justin Wilson
and Jason Plato.
The first two dedicated trade days attracted more buyers than ever
before and a substantial increase in the number of buyers from overseas.
More than one million square feet of the NEC was filled with over 700
exhibitors and highlights included the full Formula 1 grid on steel
cradles and the new Historic Hall, which captured the atmosphere of
racing years gone by.
“
This year’s Autosport show was a great success, with exhibitors
reporting record sales,” said Gavin Brown, Managing Director
of Haymarket Exhibitions Ltd. “The show, opened by Lord Astor
of Hever, included the announcement that the A1 Grand Prix will start
their series at Brands Hatch. The live transmission from Barcelona
brought the sight and sound of Formula 1 racing into the NEC and visitors
were captivated by the images beamed by satellite. Autosport
International will be back at the NEC from 12-15 January 2006.”
