Hollamby Bids for VW Racing Cup Glory
28 January 2005
Shaun Hollamby has confirmed his intention to contest the 2005 Volkswagen
Racing Cup at the wheel of a Golf R32. The former Multisport Champion
will lead a three-car
squad from Big Boys Toys Motorsport.
Hollamby, 39, gave his four-wheel-drive Golf a successful maiden outing at Brands
Hatch at the end of last year, claiming pole position and second place in both
races, and is hopeful that it will prove a strong championship contender.
‘Business commitments have restricted my campaigns before but I am fully
revved up for the new season and will be doing my best to win the championship
for BBT Motorsport in its debut season,’ said Shaun.
Team director Chris Tweed added: ‘The Golf proved competitive with minimal
testing, so with a decent test programme we should hit the ground running when
we get to Donington in April.’
BBT Motorsport – based at the Essex premises of performance parts supplier
Big Boys Toys – will also field RSi Beetles for Paul Lloyd-Roach and Steve
Dorrell, both seasoned Volkswagen Racing Cup campaigners.
Hollamby’s car-racing career spans nearly 20 years; he started in Formula
Vee and went on to Formula First before his 1989 Multisport championship victory
and a subsequent spell in Formula Forward.
After several seasons as a Formula 1 TV director, Hollamby re-entered the sport
in 2003 in the Volkswagen Racing Cup. He won two races and finished fourth in
the championship at the wheel of a Beetle.
