Inskip and Tippet Plan VW Racing Cup Return
06 February 2005
Craig Inskip, who enjoyed his best-yet season in the Volkswagen Racing
Cup in 2004, finishing fourth, is to return to the championship for
a full tilt at the
title.
His Golf Turbo – badly damaged in a startline shunt at Brands Hatch at
the end of the year – is currently undergoing major surgery at the Northiam
workshops of CCi Motorsport and will be a force with which to be reckoned, says
Craig.
‘We’ve taken advantage of the fact that it needed a full front-end
rebuild to develop some new ideas and incorporate them; it should make a big
difference to traction and handling and I’m confident that we’ll
be on the pace.’
It will be 35-year-old Inskip’s fourth season with the Becra-backed Mk
IV GTI. It has edged closer to the front of the pack with each phase of development
and was a podium finisher for the first time at Croft last year.
Inskip enjoys additional support from Grant Motorsport, QP Engineering and Car
Crazy Autostores.
Inskip joins Shaun Hollamby as one of the early-season favourites for title honours.
Hollamby will race a Golf R32 as part of a three-car team from Big Boys Toys
Motorsport.
The championship’s first female competitor, 23-year-old Claire Tippet,
has also announced her intention to return as part of a three-car team from Dave
Turner’s Volkswagen and Audi Centre.
Tippet will once again pilot the oldest – and one of the most successful – cars
in the championship, the ex-Rob and Ian Carvell Mk I Golf GTI. ‘We’re
planning on a move up to 2-litre power this year,’ said Cheltenham-based
Claire, ‘because the Golf lacked torque. I’m hopeful that the better
acceleration will help me towards the front of the grid.’ Tippet’s
best race placing in 2004 was 10th.
The Volkswagen Racing Cup enjoys the support of Augustus Martin, Castrol, ECM
Vehicle Delivery, Europcar, Experian, gedas UK, Inchcape Automotive, ISG Occupancy,
K&N Filters, Sabelt, Milltek Sport, Mondial Assistance, Pirelli, Proximity
London, KW Automotive, Sony UK, Superchips, TMD Friction, TNT Logistics, Volkswagen
Commercial Vehicles and Volkswagen Financial Services UK. The opening rounds
are at Donington Park on 2/3 April.
