Lark and Woodhatch Join Forces for VW Cup
Attack
17 February 2005
Ken Lark - a three-time race winner in 2004 - is to return to the
Volkswagen Racing Cup as part of a new team alliance.
Lark and his Corrado VR6 will be run by the Grant Motorsport operation,
with team chief Grantley Woodhatch at the wheel of a Beetle RSi for
a serious assault
on the championship title.
Said Woodhatch: 'Grant Motorsport will be running at least four cars
- for Ken, myself, Craig Inskip and John Quartermaine - and hopefully
some others in addition.
It should be a formidable team.' Woodhatch has bought the Beetle which Mike Neuhoff
drove to championship victory in 2001 and has equipped it with a new Grant Motorsport-prepared
2.8-litre engine.
Lark's Corrado won at Croft last year and twice at Snetterton, and
the Hertfordshire-based 48-year-old finished third overall. 'I
should have won the championship last
year,' he said, 'and I'm going to give it my best shot this season. The old
Corrado is still well on the pace and it's going to be hard to
beat at the quicker circuits.'
Ex-Rover racer Quartermaine has installed a fresh 2-litre, 16-valve
engine in his Mk III Golf GTI for his campaign.
Also returning to the Cup for 2005 are father-and-son racers Barrie
and Martyn Culley with their matching Vento VR6s.
Meanwhile, Giles Lock - who cut his racing teeth alongside his brother
Julian in the Big Boys Toys Beetle Cup in the '90s - is to return
to the track with
a TDI-powered Caddy van. Lock is the MD of Surrey firm Top Print and runs a
fleet of road-going Caddys.
