Alan Bonner to Lead Xero's British GT Assault
19
March 2005
Alan Bonner will launch Xero-Competition’s assault on the British
GT (GT3) Championship when it gets underway at Donington Park
on Sunday the 3rd of April. The Scot will drive the Chevy powered
Xero Competition GT3 Corvette C5.
Team Principal Dave Beecroft comments “I know Alan
from way back in the early 90's when he raced against my guys
in F2000 and he always impressed me in those days. Latterly I have
had him in the car on a number of occasions including the 2003 British
GT race at Thruxton when unfortunately for him the engine let go in
qualifying.
In fact, Alan has driven all three of Xero-Competition’s Corvette’s
at one time or another and I am delighted he has agreed to lead our
charge for the 2005 GT3 Championship title. He’s an astute and
very competent driver, everyone knows his pace and it was plain for
all to see whilst he led the British GT race at Brands Hatch to
the Ultima’s best ever podium finish at the end of last season.
With wins in Belcar and Britcar Xero Competition has proven it's a race winning
team and I am hoping Alan will bring us our first victory in British GT. Unfortunately,
the co driver I had lined up for Alan has taken a fantastic offer to
do LMES, so we need to work pretty quick to secure a partner in time for Donington”.
Alan Bonner, “Finally I get a chance to do a whole season with Xero, I
believe they are one of the best teams in the paddock, competing in British GT,
Britcar, Belcar and FIA GT at Silverstone this May, they are certainly one of
the hardest working teams around.
I’ve been close to driving for Xero competition on many occasions and I
really can’t wait for the season to start. I drove the GT3 Corvette at
the British GT Media launch at Silverstone and it felt good to get back in the
seat again. I’ve been very fortunate to drive the GT2 and GT3 Corvette’s
and they are just such a treat. They have loads of torque, a very forgiving chassis,
with great turn in and excellent balance”.
