British GT Championship Boasts Strongest
Grid for Years
22
March 2005
With only two weeks to go, all eyes are back on the British GT Championship,
with another great season of exciting and competitive racing in store. In 2005,
the field consists of a huge variety of different manufacturers. As well as
the popular Ferraris, Porsches, TVR's and Morgans, the grid will include cars
such as the Vauxhall VX220, the BMW Z3 M Coupe, Dodge Viper, Corvette, Marcos
Mantis, Ultima GTR, Mosler, Nissan 350Z and a Trident run on Bio-diesel fuel.
Now in its twelfth season, the British GT Championship will open
itself up to a wider audience in 2005, when the GT2 cars join the
FIA GT regulars for the
Magny Cours round at the end of April. The GT2 cars will compete alongside
the FIA GT in the same race, which guarantees great coverage around
Europe. When
the Championships move on to Croft, only the GT3 cars will compete in round
three and four.
The strong grid of 25 cars sees some familiar faces coming back into
the Championship. Just to name a few, Scuderia Ecosse enters the
2005 season with the same strong
driver-line up as last year. Tim Mullen alongside Chris Niarchos, and Nathan
Kinch with Andrew Kirkaldy, Mike Jordan is back with Team Eurotech, battling
it out with three cars on the grid, two Porsche GT3 and one Porsche GT3RS,
while Embassy Racing has swapped their 2004 Corvette in favour
of a Porsche 996 GT3
RSR for this year.
Also, the 2005 season will see the youngest-ever driver in the history
of the Championship: aged just 16, Miles Hulford will be starting
for Damax alongside
fellow Brit Jamie Smyth, who race a Ferrari 360 in the GT3 this year. New
team Quaife, entering the Championship with a Porsche GT3 Cup in
GT3, will also
be fielding the youngest-ever driver pairing, with drivers Alex Mortimer
and Phil
Quaife having a combined age of 38 at the opening round at Donington Park
One of the Championship's new partners is the Internet portal Crash.Net,
which will take internet coverage for the Championship to a new level.
Following the deal, the Championship will receive increased in
depth coverage on www.crash.net,
Crash.net Radio and through Crash.net syndicated online and offline media
destinations.
Another new feature for the 2005 season of the British GT Championship
is unique to Motorsport in the UK - a Race Radio provided by Embassy
Racing.
Embassy Race Radio will be available to the general public, as well
as to fans in and around the circuit. At all British rounds of
the Championships,
Embassy
Race Radio will relay music, interviews and race commentary as well as
a
text messaging service. It will also be accessible over the Internet
in the near
future. The text messaging service is a fast way for people at the circuit
to receive
first hand information within 30 seconds of sending a message from any
mobile phone to the commentators, who will answer any questions regarding
the ongoing
track action.
Another special feature is live feed commentary between drivers in
the GT cars and the commentator of the race. One driver will be
picked for
each
round to
talk live from the car to the commentator during the race - this will
be broadcast live to listeners.
With these great contributions to the Championship, we are set to
see one of the strongest British GT Championships in years.
