Marco Asmer Snatches Pole for Dirani in Qualifying
for Second F3 Round at Donington
02 April 2005
Marco Asmer was quickest in the second qualifying session of the
day, claiming pole position with a time of 1:03.119. The Hitech Racing
driver has good hopes
for tomorrow's second race. "We are more than capable of winning the race
tomorrow, but you never know - it's racing and many things can happen," Asmer
said after the qualifying, "But if I get a good start I can't see why we
shouldn't win. Even in the first race, if I somehow pass Dirani, we should be
alright for a win in the first race."
Although Lola driver Dirani lost out on his second pole of the day
by just 0.118 seconds, the P1 Motorsport driver was delighted with
the results. However, he
had problems with the changing weather conditions. "The conditions were
a bit different in the second session, it was warmer and the wind was stronger.
That's the reason why I didn't do a good lap," Dirani explained. "On
my fastest lap, I missed the first and last corners, and that cost me the pole
position. "
After an ongoing battle between Mike Conway (Fortec), Charlie Kimball
(Carlin) and Susie Stoddart (Alan Docking Racing), the Fortec driver
had to be content
with third spot on the grid for the second race in a row.
Edenbridge Racing Driver Cheong Lou Meng lost control of his car eleven
minutes into the qualifying session and hit the tyre barriers hard
at Redgate Corner
Exit. The session had to be red flagged for a short time to clear the debris
from the track.
Barton Mawer (T Sport) was quickest in the National Class
with a lap of 1:03.841
After claiming second place for the first race, he was very happy with
pole for
the second race. "It feels really good to be on pole. We made a few changes
to the car before the second qualifying session and that's were we got the time
from. It was a big improvement and it should be a good race tomorrow, " he
said after the last qualifying session of the day.
Mexican Salvador Duran rounded up the good performance for P1 Motorsport
by securing second place for the grid in the National Class. Pole
sitter for Sunday's first
race, Josh Fisher will start from third on the grid for the second race.
The second race starts on Sunday afternoon at 13:35 hrs.
