Second British F3 Win of the Day for Brazilian Dirani

04 April 2005

Lola B05/30 Mugen-Honda driver Dirani secured a second consecutive win of the day, by winning the second race of the British F3 International Series, which took place on Sunday afternoon at Donington Park.

Dirani led from the start, overtaking pole position man Marko Asmer (Hitech Racing) in the first corner, pulling out a good lead which he retained throughout the race. "It's an incredible feeling! I really did want to win the race," an overwhelmed Dirani said after the second podium ceremony. "This is a dream come true, to win both races and gett the Championship lead with Lola. It is a gift for them, for [team owner] Roly [Vincini] and me. It's amazing! Now we have to celebrate tonight!"

As in the first race, the Safety Car had to come out at the beginning of the race, when Bruno Senna and Charlie Hollings (Promatecme) collided on lap one, both retiring. The Safety Car pulled back into the pits after the third lap. Dirani made a good re-start, with Daniel Clarke (Double R Racing) and Mike Conway (Fortec Motorsport) side by side, and Stephen Kane (Promatecme) in 5th position.
Despite dropping to fourth at the start, Marko Asmer had a far better second race. He recovered to second place, setting the fastest lap of the race on lap 13, with a lap of 1:03.215. Mike Conway, who was second in the first race, claimed his second podium of the day with a third-place finish in the second race. National Class

After coming second in the first race, Barton Mawer (T-Sport) was over the moon after winning the second race of the day ahead of Salvador Duran (P1 Motorsport) and first race winner Josh Fisher, who came third. "I managed to get a reasonable start from pole position. Bruno (Senna) had a spin in the old hairpin so kept the back away from me a little bit," Barton Mawer said after collecting his trophy. "I didn't have much pressure from behind and I got into a really good rhythm. It all just worked out the way it was planned."

Scholarship contender John Kennard had a huge accident at the end of lap 5 in the chicane before the start/finishing line, when his car flipped twice and smashed into the tyre barriers. Fortunately, the Alan Docking Racing driver escaped unhurt.

The next round for the teams and drivers taking part in the 2005 British F3 International Series will take place at the Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, on April 17th.
