Dyson Bids for Further Caterham Success at Oulton Park

14 April 2005

Home advantage is always a powerful performance booster and Cheshire driver David Dyson will be hoping that next weekend's (23/24 Apr) rounds of the Powertrain Caterham Challenge at Oulton Park will give him the chance to increase his R400 class lead.

Altrincham-based Dyson, 40, drove his Frasc-backed and Hyperion Motorsport-prepared Caterham to twin wins in the opening rounds at Donington Park earlier this month and leads Luc Paillard (Sevenoaks) and Will Mitcham (Bury St Edmunds) by seven points.

With the Oulton rounds not forming part of Paillard's race schedule, it will fall on Mitcham's shoulders, and on those of Mancunian Ted Murray, to try to prevent another Dyson clean-up.

Mitcham, who turns 30 the day after his Oulton outing, claimed his maiden R400 podium finish at Donington Park and is keen to follow that up with a first race victory for the Taylor's Foundry Motor Sport team.

Murray, 28, impressed on his R400 debut with Team Parker Racing, claiming third place in the first Donington race to move into fourth overall in the championship alongside Jack Newland (Bicester).

Dyson will be backed up in the Hyperion team by Londoners Nick Payne and Ewan McIntyre, and by Nathan Bell (Chippenham). Others expected on the grid include Fauldsport team-mates Rachel Green (Sawbridgeworth) and Paul Allen (Disley) and Minister Racing's Ben Dezille Butler (Bury St Edmunds).

In the class for Roadsport A Caterhams, Bicester's Graham Fennymore enjoys a handsome lead after a double-top at Donington, but he knows that he can't afford to rest on his laurels as there are several queuing up behind him. Derbyshire drivers James Gardiner and Doug Clark lead his pursuers, along with Riki Nash (Borehamwood) and Tony Hawkins (Reigate).

The Oulton rounds of the Powertrain Caterham Challenge will be the third and fourth events in the 12-race schedule.
