Late Deal Helps Inskip to Complete Season
28 April
2005
Volkswagen Racing Cup title contender Craig Inskip has been handed
a sponsorship lifeline to help him continue in the championship.
Despite holding second place in the points standings and being the
only driver other than Shaun Hollamby to have won a race this year,
Golf racer Inskip was
ready to hang up his helmet.
"I started the year with just about enough budget to see me through the
season," said Craig, "but my accident at Donington put a big hole in
the finances." Inskip faced little alternative but to miss the forthcoming
Knockhill rounds.
But financial aid has now arrived courtesy Cambridge Business Travel,
headed by former Volkswagen Racing Cup competitor and Porsche GT
racer Stuart Scott,
who said: "Craig's an old friend and rival and currently he seems to be
Shaun's only competition for the championship title. It would be a great shame
if he wasn't out there doing his best to win."
Inskip's race win, his first in the championship, came at Donington
in early April in bizarre style when he crossed the finishing line
backwards at 100mph
on the grass after falling foul of a backmarker in the final bend. The damage
to Inskip's Becra-backed Golf was extensive.
The Volkswagen Racing Cup enjoys the support of Augustus Martin,
