Bond Street Sees Red!

07 May 2005

New Bond Street in London was brought to a standstill at 12pm on Wednesday 4th May as The Vintage Sports-Car Club revealed an extension to their SeeRed theme for this years event at Donington Park in Leicestershire on the 3-4 September 2005. A 1956 Maserati 250F owned by Ian Duncan was blasted past Bonhams famous sale rooms in the capital city, by Maserati whiz Rick Hall or Hall and Hall Racing. Over 100 press and guests enjoyed the spectacle, which was accentuated by the presence of a SeeRed liveries 1965 Route Master bus, and learnt about the Clubs plans for the SeeRed event this year.

The exciting Ferrari Formula One track demonstrations of the previous two years featuring cars of the Schumacher era will be balanced by an international reunion of Grand Prix Maseratis. The main feature of this will be a race for these cars with a special focus on the 250F Formula One cars of the 1950s. This will be complimented by further track demonstrations and a paddock display.

Announcing this, event director Julian Ghosh said, "Whilst the rare opportunity to see a Formula One Ferrari in action may be a star attraction, those who have never seen a 250F before cannot fail to be interested by these classic front engined Grand Prix cars".

Other new features for 2005 include races for Formula Juniors on Saturday, rear engined pre-1966 Grand Prix cars courtesy of the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association on the Sunday, with Group C/GTP cars on both days.

Traditional elements of the meeting remain strong for Vintage racing with the annual Vintage and Historic Seaman Trophy races; this year the Historic event has been themed on the 1935 Donington Grand Prix grid, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the race.

VSCC President, Martin Grant Peterkin commented, "Don't forget we also have the thrilling Lansdowne Motor Cycle Races, our vintage pre-war sports-car two hour team race, and of course for those not involved with racing, the Aon Classic Car Concours which attracts an ever increasing amount of car clubs. All this combines to provide a programme varied enough to suit all tastes".
