Silverstone Makes Long-Term Commitment to
The Silverstone Classic
22 May 2005
Richard Phillips,
Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, today announced
the company’s long-term commitment to the new-look Silverstone
Classic event (formerly International Historic Festival) with the
announcement of the 2006 event dates and the extension of the festival
to a full 3-day public celebration of historic and classic motor
racing from the 1930s to the 1980s.
The weekend of 28/29/30 July 2006 is set for next year’s Silverstone
Classic and advance weekend ticket purchasers will receive a special
Friday Preview Pass as the event grows to a full 3-day timetable of
track and festival activities. Phillips also announced at a media presentation,
held at the circuit, that the event will play an important role in
the company’s long-term race programme, and that The Silverstone
Classic would always be held on the last weekend of each July.
Exciting future developments include Classic motorcycle racing, which
will be introduced at next year’s event with two international
races for 750cc and unlimited capacity racing motorcycles, to celebrate
the Transatlantic Trophy international races of the 1970s. Past two-wheel
heroes from the UK and the USA are expected to line-up on the world
famous Silverstone start-line as they meet once again for top wheel-to-wheel
action around the 3.144 mile Silverstone Historic Grand Prix Circuit.
The 2005 Silverstone Classic, in association with Bonhams, will feature
17 races and 6 decades of Formula One and world Sportscars, representing
racing from the 1930s to the 1980s. With more than 500 competitors,
and many other classic formula and saloon car races throughout the
weekend, Silverstone looks set to host one of the world’s biggest
gatherings of classic and historic racing cars and drivers.
Admission prices start from £10.00 (if booked in advance), with
grandstand seating, parking and access for children (aged 15 and under)
free.
