Impressive Drive From Alvaro Parente Claims
Second British F3 Win at Knockhill
23 May 2005
Alvaro Parente clinched his second victory of the day in race two
of the British F3 International Series at Knockhill on Sunday, despite
an incident two laps
before the end, where he nearly lost control of his Dallara F305 Mugen-Honda. "I
am really pleased with my third win in a row," Parente said in the press
conference. "I had a great start and managed to pull away. I had a comfortable
lead, but then I had a bit of a scary moment when I ran over something in the
first corner. I ran a little bit wide but managed to come back on the track."
Marko Asmer from Hitech Racing finished in second position, after making
a great start, shooting from third on the grid, past Ryan Lewis (T-Sport),
to take second
place. Asmer and Lewis had a good fight for a few laps, absolutely nose to tail,
until both cars touched coming up to Seat corner, which resulted in a spin for
Lewis. The T-Sport driver was left facing the wrong way on the track and was
lucky all other cars were able to avoid him. "I was squeezed onto the grass
and I simply didn't have enough room," a frustrated Ryan Lewis said after
the race. Ryan Lewis eventually finished the race in eighth position. Marko Asmer
continued his good run and finished second yet again. "I am getting quite
frustrated with second places, to be honest," Asmer admitted afterwards. "However,
considering we had a tough weekend, and we weren't on the pace at all, I am happy
with a podium finish."
Charlie Kimball made it a one-three finish for Carlin Motorsport when
he took his first podium of the year. Starting in fifth, the American
was thrilled with
his result. "It was such an exciting race, a typical F3 race," Kimball
said. "It was hard work but lots of fun at the same time."
Mike Conway, who started the race in sixth position, was amongst the
drivers who were fighting for a podium finish. Having gained third
place, the engine
of his Dallara Opel Spiess blew up just two laps before the end of the race.
In the National Class, Charlie Hollings also won his second
race of the day. After a great battle with Barton Mawer (T-Sport),
which saw
Hollings using every
inch of the circuit to fight off the T-Sport driver, he kept it nice and tidy
to take the win. "I wasn't as quick as I was in the first race," Hollings
said. "I had a good fight with Barton (Mawer) and I think he was faster
but luckily he didn't find a way past me." However they both made contact
close to the end, and Mawer was forced to run wide through the grass but eventually
made it back on track. Mawer finished the race in second position.
Alan Docking Racing's Jonathan Kennard finished the race in third
position, securing his first ever podium in the British F3 International
Series.
