Race Entries and Ticket Sales Soar as Silverstone
Classic Gears Up for Summer Spectacle
08 June 2005
Silverstone has today confirmed that entries and ticket sales for
its new-look Silverstone Classic, in association with Bonhams (30 /
31
July, 2005), have soared, with most of the 17 of the weekend’s
races over scribed and a reserve list already established. TGP, World
Sports Car Masters, Gentleman Drivers Sports & GT, Derek Bell Trophy
and other main event races have all reported considerable interest
from competitors, with registrations coming in thick and fast – a
testament to the new-look festival event taking place on the world-famous
3.144 mile Silverstone Historic Grand Prix circuit.
At the same time spectator interest has mirrored the enthusiasm shown
by competitors, with Silverstone’s booking office reporting record
increases in Saturday, Sunday and Weekend Ticket sales. Tickets are
still available from £10 and £15 if booked in advance,
while a Weekend Ticket (only available to advance bookings) represents
a £15 saving on two day passes purchased on the gate.
News has also arrived from the Southern Hemisphere where 9 x V8 5-litre
F5000 cars from the 1960/70s are currently on the high seas from New
Zealand to participate in the two Derek Bell Trophy races on the Saturday
and Sunday of the event. NZ racers; Murray Sinclair, Stan Redmond,
Lindsay O’Donnell, David Abbott, Poul Christie, Stuart Lush,
Kerry Anderson and Noel Atley will be re-united with their prize Lolas
(T332s, T430, T142 & T190), McRae (GM1s) and Begg (FM5 & 018)
race cars when they arrive in the UK to prepare for the international
event.
An all-new Silverstone Classic website - www.silverstoneclassic.com - has gone live this week providing instant event information, race
details, timetable, photo galleries, links and other important visitor
information.
The 2005 Silverstone Classic, in association with Bonhams, will feature
17 races and 6 decades of Formula One and world Sportscars, representing
racing from the 1930s to the 1980s. With more than 500 competitors,
and many other classic formula and saloon car races throughout the
weekend, Silverstone looks set to host one of the world’s biggest
gatherings of classic and historic racing cars and drivers.
Admission prices start from £10.00 (if booked in advance), with
grandstand seating, parking and access for children (aged 15 and under)
free.
