Alvaro Parente Wins Second British F3 Race at
Castle Combe
27 June 2005
Carlin Motorsport's Alvaro Parente won the second race at Castle
Combe on Sunday afternoon. He was under pressure throughout the race
from his team-mate Charlie
Kimball, who was right on his tail. However, cruel luck was to rob Kimball of
a certain second place when on lap 21 a slow puncture resulted in a spin coming
out of Camp Corner. Watts and the field behind him narrowly missed the stranded
Kimball. Following the incident the race was red-flagged and stopped four laps
before the official end.
Danny Watts made a great return to the Championship by finishing in
second place for Alan Docking Racing. Watts, who started the race
in sixth place, slowly moved
his way up the order, passing the likes of Fortec Motorsport's Mike Conway. Due
to a spin from Tim Bridgman on lap eight, the Safety Car was called out to collect
the debris. After the re-start, Watts got ahead of Clarke, and, after Kimball's
misfortune, gained second. "I'm very pleased - it was a great race," Watts
said after the podium. "I think I nearly died on the pit straight and I
was lucky to avoid Charlie's [Kimball] car. I was a cat with nine lives today.
It's good to be back - the team did a fantastic job this weekend."
Race one winner Dan Clarke from Raikonnen Robertson Racing
claimed the final podium
spot and rounded off a superb weekend for the Englishman.
Marko Asmer (Hitech Racing), Danilo Dirani (P1 Motorsport),
and Christian Bakkerud
from Carlin Motorsport completed the top six.
Barton Mawer (T-Sport) won the
race in the National Class and further extended
his lead in the Series. "It was a great win for us today," Mawer said
afterwards. "I got Charlie [Hollings] at the start and then tried to keep
out of trouble because there was so much going on."
Charlie Hollings from Promatecme finished the race in second place.
Birthday boy Jonathan Kennard (Alan Docking Racing) rounded up
a good day with his second
podium finish at Castle Combe.
Salvador Duran (P1 Motorsport), Ben Clucas (Fluid Motorsport), and
Juho Annala (Alan Docking Racing) completed the top six.
