Staples to Naples Fun Run Supports Safe Speed Campaign
12 July 2005
The annual Staples2Naples 'banger rally' / fun run that
takes place in September this year will donate proceeds from
the auction sale of the one remaining team slot to the Safe
Speed road safety campaign.
On 22nd September, 100 cars worth less than £100
each will assemble at Calais, including our own Team
MSportUK.com.
Over the next 4 days we will attempt to travel through Europe, across
the Alps and down to Naples in Italy, completing
various
tasks
along the
way.
The coveted '01' team slot is usually reserved for last year's
winners, but last years winners can't participate in this years' event
and the slot has become available. It's being auctioned on eBay, with
50% of the sale proceeds going to the Safe Speed campaign.
Paul Smith,
founder of the Safe Speed road safety campaign (www.safespeed.org.uk)
said: "This fun run is an indication of
the depth of the relationships we have with our cars. It's a culture thing. Our research indicates that good cultural
influences are of fundamental importance to road safety. The more seriously we take our cars, the more likely we are as individuals
to develop the techniques required to use them safely. Safe Speed is
delighted to receive this finding and hopes that auction bidders will
be generous."
Justin Clements, organiser of the 'Staples to Naples' rally (www.staples2naples.com)
said: "Last year's rally was a huge success
- these events create memories that last a lifetime. We're
hoping and planning that this year's event will be just as
enjoyable. I'm especially proud to have found the opportunity
to support Safe Speed's important work. We don't believe that
road safety should be reduced to simple speed limit compliance either. Safe
driving is a sophisticated and complex activity and British road safety policy must wake up to the fact."
The progress of the MSportUK banger's development can be followed
online and the team site will have news, images and tales of adventure
from the trip. We will also continue to follow the progress of the
Safe Speed campaign.
