Legends Cars Switch to Brands Hatch for Winter
Weekend
08 September 2005
The dates for the Legends Cars 2005 Winter Weekend has been set with
the 5/8ths scale Yamaha powered machines returning to Brands Hatch
on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th November.
The 2005 Championship came to a close at September’s Thunder
Sunday event last weekend with Peter Morton taking the title. The
original intention was for the Legends’ Winter Weekend also to
be staged at Rockingham as part of October’s Thunder Sunday. Several
factors have come into play which means that the Winter Weekend will
move from the first weekend in October to the first weekend in November
and from Rockingham to Brands Hatch. Some drivers will have cars
en route to the USA for the World Legends Championship at Sears Point
and others will use the extra time to prepare cars for several new
drivers keen to try Legends.
With Legends Cars now active across Europe as well as the USA, Legends
boss Phil Cooper has extended an invitation to drivers from Belgium,
Spain and France to compete at what may turn out to be a Legends Cars
Winter Festival. “All of our European friends are well
aware of the Brands Hatch name and the circuit’s excellent reputation. It’s
an ideal circuit for Legends Cars both from the drivers’ perspective
and that of the fans.”
The Winter Weekend will consist of two days racing with three races
on each day. “We tend to get a lot of new drivers trying the
cars at our Winter meeting,” adds Cooper. “It’s
always a fun event. The emphasis will be on enjoyable racing, not trophy
chasing. Any drivers wanting to race at Brands should get in
touch with us early on to avoid disappointment.”
“Most of this year’s drivers have already stated their
intention to race in the National Championship again in 2006. I’m
thrilled to be in that situation. We’ve had full grids all season
and are looking forward to next season when the entry will be headed
by our new champion, Peter Morton.”
