of Motorsport Confirmed by A1 Grand Prix
18 September 2005
A1 Grand Prix’s course around the
globe has now been set with the confirmation of the first season’s
racing calendar. Visiting some of the world’s most exciting countries,
the inaugural World Cup of Motorsport will host 24 adrenaline-fuelled
races over 12 weekends.
Teams from every corner of the globe will compete
on a level playing field across world famous circuits and newly upgraded
facilities. Bringing a new dimension to international motorsport, A1
Grand Prix will take motorsport to previously untapped markets.
Announcing
the 2005/06 season calendar, A1 Grand Prix Founder, President and Chairman
Sheikh Maktoum said: ‘I am delighted to confirm the
race calendar for the first-ever World Cup of Motorsport. We have spoken
to A1 Teams, national governments and most importantly our fans to
produce a schedule that promises to deliver exciting, high-speed racing
across every habitable continent. A1 Grand Prix is about making motorsport
accessible, with affordable tickets to popular locations. To have up
to 25 A1 race
cars, each proudly presenting their national sponsors, competing at
circuits in both developed and developing markets, will be a remarkable
spectacle for both new and traditional race fans.’
Following the
summer sun around the globe, A1 Grand Prix will deliver 12 weekends
of exciting racing action outside of the traditional motorsport season,
kicking-off at Brands Hatch, Great Britain on 25 September 2005.
Pitting driver against driver and country against country for the
first time in motorsport history, A1 Grand Prix will bring together
25 national teams, representing 80 per cent of the world's population
to actively compete on a level
playing field.
