Lark Set to Fly Again in 2006 VW Cup

11 November 2005

Volkswagen Racing Cup stalwart Ken Lark plans to return to winning ways next season at the helm of a new car.

Lark, who has competed in the championship since its inception in 2000, is to ditch the 2.8-litre Corrado VR6 with which he scored six race wins over five seasons and will opt instead for a 1.8 turbo Golf GTI.

The Mk IV Golf, which will be backed by Northamptonshire Volkswagen retailer Wayside, is currently being rebuilt by a top saloon preparation expert and will, says Lark, be a very competitive proposition: 'It's a quick, proven car and we are doing a lot of work on it to make sure that it will be competitive.

'After five years the Corrado had just about reached the end of the development line. There's plenty to come from the Golf yet…'

Another hoping to return to the Volkswagen Racing Cup grid in 2006 is Craig Inskip. Fourth in the championship in 2004 and a race winner in '05 in his Golf, Inskip has already secured half the budget required to compete.

'I have set myself a target to win the championship,' said Craig. 'I have a good car, an excellent team and I know that I can do it, but several other factors have to be in place, including enough sponsorship to get the job done. I really want to be there next year…'

Subject to contract, the Volkswagen Racing Cup will in 2006 be the sole saloon support championship on the prestigious British F3 and British GT Championship UK tour.

The Volkswagen Racing Cup enjoys the support of Augustus Martin, Castrol, ECM Vehicle Delivery, Europcar, Experian, Inchcape Automotive, ISG Occupancy, Milltek Sport, Mondial Assistance, Pirelli, Proximity London, KW Automotive, Superchips, TNT Logistics, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Volkswagen Financial Services UK.
