Hooker Makes It A Trophy Hat-trick
21 November 2005
MSportUK Featured Driver, Ryan
Hooker, has rounded off his 2005 season with a strong win at the
Britsports Winter Series making his recent wins haul three in as many
weeks!
Ryan, once again backed by Essex based Fire Protection Engineers -
Firesure Limited, was partnering Jeff Davies in the Juno SS3-V6 at this
weekend’s Britsports race at Brands Hatch, a fortnight after the
pair won the first Winter Series race at Snetterton, Norfolk. In the
weekend in-between, Ryan won the British GT class at the 6 Hours of
Vallelunga, Italy with Trackspeed alongside Piers Masarati and David
Ashburn in a Porsche GT3.
A test day on Friday at Brands Hatch was a cold affair, with morning
practice made difficult by heavy frost on the circuit. As such Ryan
and the team concentrated on setting up the Juno SS3-V6 to run at the
correct temperature for the day’s conditions. As the day gave
a little, further testing concentrated on finalising the set up and
Ryan was pleased to put in a very competitive time of 44.9seconds around
the Brands Indy circuit.
Qualifying took place on Saturday morning with Ryan’s outing
disrupted by a safety car period, however Jeff’s run was under
green flag, clear condition and he qualified the car in fifth position.
The event was separated into two separate 45 minute races, with the
result to be aggregated. Jeff and Ryan elected to drive one race in
entirety each with Jeff taking the wheel in race one.
Jeff had a strong race, in good conditions, and made his way through
the field to take a comprehensive win by over 15seconds.
Ryan started his race from pole position and was soon battling for
the lead with the Jade car which did get past him at one point. The
second Juno car driven by James Richardson and Ben Devlin, which had
had problems in race one, scythed through the field to take the lead.
As they did Ryan retook the Jade to slot into second place and went
about chasing the sister Juno now in the lead. Ryan finished second
on the track, just 0.5seconds behind the other Juno but on aggregate
Ryan and Jeff had done enough to take the win by 2 laps!
"It was a good race for me" said Ryan, "with some very
competitive cars and drivers out on track, not least the other Juno.
The car handled very well and I had some good battles with the Jade.
It was great to finish a Juno 1-2 on the track and even better for me
when we saw the aggregate meant Jeff and I had a strong win. Three trophies
in three weeks is amazing!"
