Blaupunkt Sponsors the 2006 SEAT Cupra Championship
12 January 2006
Blaupunkt, a subsidiary of Robert Bosch Ltd and the market leader
for car radios in Europe, will be the title sponsor of the SEAT Cupra
Championship in 2006.
The partnership ensures that the Blaupunkt SEAT Cupra Championship
continues to be a major stepping stone for aspiring young British touring
car drivers as it enters its fourth year.
The SEAT Cupra Championship has already produced three worthy champions
– Rob Huff (2003), James Pickford (2004) and Tom Boardman (2005)
– and given away a prize fund worth over £1.2M. Seven SEAT
Cupra Championship drivers have gone on to either race or test a works
SEAT Sport UK touring car and Huff now races inthe FIA World Touring
Car Championship.
Healthy grids of identical 250PS turbo-charged Leon Cupra Rs have seen
a total of 51 drivers contest the seriesover the last three years. The
2006 Blaupunkt SEAT Cupra Championship will be just as competitive,
with individual teams running their own Leon Cupra Rs and aiming for
the first prize of £100,000 – the biggest cash prize in
British motorsport.
This year’s series will continue to be fully manufacturer-backed,
with SEAT UK co-ordinating and administering allthe promotional and
marketing activities. Teams and competitors will also benefit from the
popular SEAT Cupra Championship Race Centre – a high profile central
point of contact offering drivers hospitality in the paddock whilst
still maintaining and promoting their own team identity within their
own paddock environment.
The 2006 series will once again form part of the TOCA support race
package, with 18 races taking place over all nine mainland Dunlop MSA
British Touring Car Championship race weekends.
Scott Dennis, SEAT UK National Motorsport Manager, said: “The
fact that the SEAT Cupra Championship is entering its fourth year is
a clear indication that SEAT UK is dedicated to developing young driving
talent. It’s fantastic that a brand such as Blaupunkt has recognised
the strength of the Championship and has committed to supporting it
in 2006. We are looking forward to working closely together with Blaupunkt
to make the SEAT Cupra Championship the best supporting role in the
TOCA Tour.
”David Anderson, Blaupunkt UK Divisional Director, said: “Taking
the title sponsorship of the SEAT Cupra Championship was a natural step
for Blaupunkt as the brand is already a passionate supporter of motorsport
in Europe. We are very pleased to partner SEAT and be at the heart of
what should prove to be the most exciting motorsport event in the UK
for 2006.
”Regulations and entry forms are now available and teams and
drivers wishing to register their interest in the 2006 Blaupunkt SEAT
Cupra Championship should contact the series co-ordinator, Mark Turner.
