Top Dates for Caterham's UK Championships
20 January 2006
Caterham Motorsport has announced provisional calendars for its premier
UK championships which feature top-line dates and circuits.
Once again Caterham will provide a chief supporting event to the British
F3 Championship and the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, with double-header
races at five GT/F3 meetings for the new Cosworth-powered Superlight
model, which will share its grid with the race-proven R400.
The championship has a new title sponsor - Autosport magazine - and
a new title: the Autosport Caterham Superlight Challenge, reflecting
the readoption of the much-loved Superlight name for the new car.
Caterham Cars director of motorsport Magnus Laird explains the switch:
"The new Cosworth-powered car, hitherto known by its factory code
C400, is a worthy bearer of the Superlight name and we are pleased to
see its return to the tracks.
"We are delighted also to be supporting F3 and GT once again,"
added Laird. "We have already sold 27 new Superlights for the UK
and Europe, and the championship promises to be well supported and as
close as ever. The Superlight Challenge will also end on a high note,
at Brands Hatch in October alongside the concluding Roadsport and Academy
rounds and the traditional Formula Ford Festival.
"Autosport has long been a Caterham supporter, particularly through
its association in recent seasons with the successful Eurocup series,
and it is very pleasing to welcome them on board as title sponsor for
Caterham's premier UK championship in addition."
The Motorsport News Caterham Roadsport Challenge will meanwhile feature
an eight-event calendar, with double-header races for full grids of
Roadsport and Roadsport B chassis at British Racing and Sports Car events.
The Roadsport Challenge concludes at Brands Hatch in October also,
and will make its first-ever foray on to French soil with the BRSCC's
April meeting at Croix in northern France.
"We are very pleased to welcome Motorsport News back as title
sponsor of the Roadsport Challenge for the fifth consecutive season,"
said Laird. "Roadsport racing goes from strength to strength every
season, and all the indications are that 2006 will be a vintage year,
with 64 registrations having already been received and, I am sure, plenty
of very close competition."
Autosport Caterham Eurocup and Cosworth Caterham Masters dates are
scheduled for release within a few days.
