Fulbrook
Returns for VW Racing Cup Title Bid
12 January 2006
The grid for the 2006 Volkswagen Racing Cup grows ever stronger - race
winner Joe Fulbrook announces his intention to return to the championship
with his turbocharged Bora.
Berkshire-based Fulbrook, 35, made a huge impression in 2005, winning
a round of the championship in what was his debut season of motorsport.
Now he's landed substantial backing from motor vehicle assurance firm
Warranty Direct and plans a serious title bid.
'I think I was unlucky last year not to have finished higher than
sixth in the championship,' said Joe. 'We've done a lot of work to the
engine and the chassis over the winter and we will be making a serious
effort. I'll be disappointed if I'm not challenging for a podium position
at every meeting.'
Essex-based RP Motorsport will be masterminding the technical side
of Fulbrook's campaign. Joe's friend and fellow printer Giles Lock will
also be fielded by RPM, his Caddy van having been repaired following
a serious crash at Castle Combe last season.
Fulbrook's announcement comes a week after Steve Wood and Michael
Kurton revealed plans for a twin Volkswagen Racing Cup attack featuring
new Golf GTIs. Two further race winners from last season, Craig Inskip
and Paul Taylor, are set to return with their Golfs, while Ken Lark
- a victor six times over several seasons - is building a new Golf for
the coming season.
The Volkswagen Racing Cup in association with Hankook, which is the
sole regular saloon-race support to the British F3 and British GT Championships,
gets underway at Oulton Park at Easter.
