Silverstone to Celebrate 50 years of the Aston
Martin DBR1 at 2006 Classic
23 January 2006
Silverstone has announced that it will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary
of Aston Martin’s DBR1 racing car at this year’s Silverstone
Classic, taking place at the world famous Home of British Motor Racing
between the 28 and 30 July, 2006. The iconic British marque will feature
prominently at this year’s Classic - one of the most prestigious
and popular racing events on the motorsport calendar.
On the last weekend in July - the Classic’s traditional slot
in the motorsport calendar - Silverstone will, once again, be transported
back to a bygone era as some of the finest racing cars ever built take
to the original Historic Grand Prix circuit, with its fast Abbey and
Club corners, for three days of non-stop nostalgia and hard, competitive
racing.
A crowd of more than 30,000 enjoyed the two-day Silverstone Classic
in 2005, and with 18 races currently scheduled for this year’s
event, circuit bosses have decided to extend the 2006 Classic to three
days. The entire event will, once again, be centred on the infield at
Silverstone, with free entry to the open paddock and centre trade village
which is expected to feature more than 30 Clubs and over 500 classic
cars.
Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited,
is looking forward to an outstanding weekend of entertainment for all
the family, “The 2006 Silverstone Classic is set to be bigger
and better than ever. More races, more displays and more entertainment
will provide an unforgettable experience for fans and enthusiasts of
all ages.
“There’s a unique atmosphere at the Silverstone Classic,
with the open Paddock providing fans with an unrivalled opportunity
to get up close and personal with some of the most loved, and best presented
classic racing cars in the world. Breathtaking on-track action is guaranteed,
while away from the track there’s plenty to keep families and
younger fans entertained, including a mixture of autograph sessions,
air displays, classic racing motorcycle displays, trade stalls, club
car displays and a period fun fair.”
Much loved classics, including Lotus, Brabham, Ferrari and Maserati
will provide an incredible spectacle as they battle it out in an action
packed race programme that spans seven decades of motor racing and includes
the following:
- Thoroughbred Grand Prix
- Grand Prix Masters 1966 to 1978 F1 Cars
- Classic Superbikes
- BRDC 500 for pre-war Sportscars
