Inskip Secures Backing for VW Cup Title Bid
27 January 2006
Craig Inskip, who claimed a dramatic 'back
to front' race victory in last year's Volkswagen Racing Cup, is
promising further wins in the 2006 season - and this time he intends
crossing the finish line with his Golf pointing in the right direction.
Inskip has confirmed today (Friday) that he is to return to the championship
for a full assault, having secured significant backing and a new engine
deal. He will once again be at the wheel of the CCi Motorsport-prepared
GTI with which he proved such a force in 2005.
'We are coming back with a better budget, a new engine and a better
prepared car,' said 36-year-old Inskip, from Northiam in East Sussex.
'The intention is to hit the ground running with a well sorted car and
to build on that, because I'm sure that a lot of the new cars coming
into the championship are going to get more and more competitive as
the year progresses.
'But my Golf is a quick car and we should be looking for race wins.
And I have no intention of winning any races backwards this time…'
Inskip's 2005 Donington Park victory was the most unusual in the championship's
history, Craig spinning backwards across the line to win after tagging
a back-marker in the final bend.
Inskip's campaign is being backed by Big Boys Toys, Cambridge Business
Travel, Becra.co.uk, Britcon Motor Factors, CarCrazy Autostores, Northiam
Antiques, QP Engineering, Track & Race Car magazine, Performance
VW and Leda Suspension.
Inskip is one of the early-season favourites, along with race winners
Joe Fulbrook (Bora), Paul Taylor, who is set to return with his Golf
R32, and Ken Lark - a victor six times over several seasons - who is
building a new Golf for the coming season. Steve Wood and Michael Kurton
have meanwhile revealed plans for a twin attack featuring new Golf GTIs.
Golf TDI driver Rob Palmer is to return also.
The Volkswagen Racing Cup in association with Hankook, which is the
sole regular saloon-race support to the British F3 and British GT Championships,
gets underway at Oulton Park at Easter.
The championship enjoys the additional support of Augustus Martin,
Castrol, ECM Vehicle Delivery, Europcar, Experian, Inchcape Automotive,
ISG Occupancy, Milltek Sport, Mondial Assistance, Proximity London,
KW Automotive, Superchips, TNT Logistics, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles
and Volkswagen Financial Services UK.
