Fennymore and Payne to Lead Hyperion's Caterham Superlight Squad

06 March 2006

Reigning Caterham R400 team champions Hyperion Motorsport today (Mon) announce a four-car line-up to contest this year's Autosport Caterham Superlight Challenge.

The squad will be led by reigning Caterham Roadsport and former Formula Ford 1600 and Formula 2000 champion Graham Fennymore, together with last year's R400 third place man Nick Payne. In addition, two race winners from the 2005 Roadsport grid, Bill Addison and Andrew Beaumont, are joining the team.

Said Hyperion boss Steve Hindle: "We are delighted that Graham and his crew have decided to race with us this year. We ran him jointly with his own 'Ambitions Team' in an R400 at Silverstone last year, where he took a maiden win after he had already clinched his Roadsport crown. We also worked together in supporting our Eurocup and Cosworth Masters cars, so we know each other well and believe that both parties can only benefit from the arrangement." With backing from Taylor Made Joinery and Sherlock Interiors, Fennymore has secured a new Cosworth-powered C400 chassis and should be a strong contender for honours.

Payne is also moving up to Cosworth power and, with the benefit of a season in R400s behind him, is hoping to better his championship third. Hindle warns that newcomers Addison and Beaumont should not be discounted from a title push, either. "Bill and Andrew were very strong last year in what was a tough grid. They're both incredibly determined and gutsy drivers so it's going to make for some exceptional racing."

The Autosport Caterham Superlight Challenge blasts into action at Oulton Park at Easter (15-17 April), playing a key supporting role to the British Formula 3 International Championship and the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

Backers for Caterham Motorsport's UK and European race series include Autosport, Bilstein, Brian James Trailers, Caged, Cheesman Products, Comma, Cosworth, Cooper-Avon Tyres, Demon Tweeks, evo, HSBC Insurance Brokers, Mitchell Cotts, Motorsport News and Stack.
