Aston Martin Racing Agrees Offfical Support for 2006 Silverstone ClassicAston Martin DBR1

06 March 2006

There was further good news for the Silverstone Classic this week as circuit bosses announced that Aston Martin Racing will officially support this year’s Silverstone Classic (28 to 30 July 2006), and that the iconic British marque will feature as a general theme for the prestigious three-day event. The news follows recent confirmation that The Classic will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Aston Martin’s DBR1 racing car.

Aston Martin Racing plans to have a number of DBR9, DBRS9 and prototype race cars taking part in the July event, in addition to providing course cars and supporting many other activities. The British marque will also have a number of cars on display in an Open Paddock that will be free of charge to all ticket holders, providing unrivalled access to some of the most prized and valuable race machinery ever produced.

In addition to three days of non-stop race action, there will be plenty to keep families entertained away from the track. A special Aston Martin Racing display paddock will host exclusive interview and autograph sessions with Aston Martin Racing works drivers, while demonstration pit stops and practice starts will take place on the circuit’s National Straight. Air displays, classic racing motorcycle displays, trade stalls; club car displays and a period fun fair will also feature, adding to the festival atmosphere.

David Richards of Aston Martin Racing commented, “We’re delighted to be supporting this year’s Silverstone Classic. Aston Martin is extremely proud of its racing heritage and our win at last year’s Silverstone Tourist Trophy makes this venue an ideal circuit to celebrate our past and present victories. Classic car events attract great crowds, and the Open Paddock on the infield at Silverstone will create a fantastic atmosphere. We’ll also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Aston Martin DBR1 at this year’s Classic, so we expect it to be three great days to remember.”

Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, welcomed the partnership with Aston Martin Racing, and is looking forward to seeing the Silverstone Classic go from strength to strength, “This is the second exciting announcement for the Silverstone Classic in a week. A crowd of more than 30,000 enjoyed the two day Silverstone Classic in 2005, and this year’s event looks set to be bigger and better than ever.

“We now have 21 races scheduled for this year’s event, which has been expanded to feature over three days, Bonhams remain on board as title sponsor, Hagerty Insurance have been signed up as our ‘Official Insurance Partner’, and we now have the iconic Aston Martin Racing brand as a central theme.”

Tickets for the 2006 Silverstone Classic have been priced at an attractive £15 per day if booked in advance (£20 on the day). A special £40 three-day pass is also available providing a massive £20 (33%) saving against on-the-day prices. Children aged 15 years and under, accompanied by an adult, continue to go free, while parking, roving grandstand seating, Paddock access and centre transfer are all included in these special prices.
