Jackson Three Team Up for Caterham Cosworth Masters Campaign

12 March 2006

Simon Jackson and his rapid offspring Dominik and Cameron are to team up to contest the Cosworth Caterham Masters in 2006. They will share a CSR 260 prepared by multiple Caterham champion Clive Richards' Colards Motorsport in the 'mini-endurance' European race series.

Jackson - a successful Caterham-Vauxhall racer in the 1990s - will share his new car with 22-year-old Dominik in next month's first round, at Hockenheim, but will thereafter be partnered by 19-year-old Cameron.

Jackson Senior enjoyed a taste of CSR racing at Spa last August, with Dominik finishing a close second to eventual champions Luke Stevens and Jon Barnes in the eighth round. The 48-year-old decided a full season was a must: "The opportunity to race a car with your sons is one that I had to take advantage of while I still could. We thoroughly enjoyed Spa, although I was a little disappointed with my pace compared to Dominik's…"

Former Formula Renault frontrunner Cameron has yet to secure an international licence, but is working on getting an upgrade in time for the second Masters meeting of the season, at Donington Park in June. He should then be able to complete the season with Simon at the Estoril, Spa, Monza and Pau-Arnos meetings while Dominik pursues his American single-seater racing career.

Colards Motorsport will also field a CSR for rapid Italian Mika Tommasi, and will be running a Superlight for David Knox in the Autosport Caterham Eurocup. Team boss Richards is, however, unsure whether he will be racing himself: "I would very much like to partner Richard Hay in his CSR once more," said Clive, "but finding the budget is proving difficult." Hay and Richards were beaten to the Masters crown by three points last year.

Other Masters runners to have declared include former Eurocup sparring partners Oliver Bull and Sarah Reader, and husband-and-wife squad Philip and Natasha Gladman. CSR champions Hyperion Motorsport are set to announce a multi-car team very soon.

Backers for Caterham Motorsport's UK and European race series include Autosport, Bilstein, Brian James Trailers, Caged, Cheesman Products, Comma, Cosworth, Cooper-Avon Tyres, Demon Tweeks, evo, HSBC Insurance Brokers, Mitchell Cotts, Motorsport News and Stack.
