Juno Racing Dominate Britsports at Snetterton
17 May 2006
Lancashire based motorsports team, Juno Racing dominated the third
round of the Britsports Championship held at Snetterton, taking wins
in both races of the double header event and dominating the podiums.
Five Junos lined up for the race including the season debuts of the
works Juno, driven by Dave Mountain and Clint Bardwell, and driving
a solo race, James Richardson in his upgraded Juno SS3. The regular
pairing of Jeff Davies and Neill Briggs in the WSG backed Juno SS3 made
the journey to Norfolk, whilst Mike Roberts was joined by Simon Parker
in the Juno Sports Prototype and winner from Round Two, Robert Oldershaw
was partnered by Andy Schulz in the Juno SS2 V6.
Juno took a stronghold on the grid in qualifying with Simon Parker
putting in a stunning lap to take pole position ahead of Juno ‘stablemates’
Davies/Briggs to make an all Juno front row. A Bicknell squeezed into
third position to stop a complete Juno take-over of the front of the
grid with Oldershaw/Schulz, Mountain/Bardwell and Richardson taking
fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
Race One saw Simon Parker start in the #70 car and stretch out a strong
lead ahead of Jeff Davies whose race was sadly brought to a premature
end with a puncture that saw the car stranded out on track, the circuit
having also claimed an early victim in Andy Schulz at Bomb Hole Corner.
Parker handed over to his partner Mike Roberts who kept the lead,
whilst behind him the Juno of James Richardson climbed from sixth to
second position to secure a Juno one-two at the chequered flag. A strong
start to the weekend’s work with it all to do the next day!
Race Two saw even greater Juno domination. Pole sitter Mike Roberts
and Neill Briggs had a great tussle with Briggs taking the lead. The
two front running Junos were soon joined by a third – as James
Richardson added to the fray. Richardson’s attempt was thwarted
by a puncture which put him back down the order but he was soon battling
towards the front again. Clint Bardwell in the works Juno, which had
suffered an engine misfire in Race One, was soon up to the leading pack
but as with Richardson, a puncture also frustrated his race.
At the pit stops leader Briggs handed over to Jeff Davies, whilst
Mike Roberts handed the reins to Simon Parker who made it his mission
to close the gap to Davies. Parker made a daring manoeuvre on Davies
on the pit straight to take the lead before romping off into the distance.
Parker took the chequered flag to secure a superb double win for the
#70 car, followed home by Davies/Briggs and to complete a Juno one-two-three,
Richardson had worked his way back to a podium finish after his earlier
puncture.
"It has been a great weekend" said Team Director, Ewan
Baldry. "Six podium places on offer over the weekend and Junos
took five of them!"
