Prosport LM3000 Reclassified to Race in GT2 for Rest of the British GT Season

Since the opening round of the 2006 Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Oulton Park on April 15th, the question was raised whether the Prosport LM3000 race cars entered by Team Data Protection Solutions and Team Scandal were correctly classified as GTC class entries for the British GT Championship.

Following detailed discussions, the British GT Championship organisers SRO and the BRSCC have taken the decision that the Prosport LM3000 was incorrectly classified as a GTC class entry and will, with immediate effect, be reclassified as a GT2 class entry for the 2006 Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

The 2006 British GT regulations describe GT2 as:
Open to cars homologated in the FIA GT2 category OR Grand Touring cars produced in small numbers and eligible according to the organisers file.

"We have looked at the situation with regards to which class the Prosport LM3000 should be placed in after the first race at Oulton Park," said Benjamin Franassovici, British GT Championship Co-ordinator. "Following a series of meetings, the decision was taken that the Prosport LM3000 was incorrectly placed in the GTC class and the two teams running these cars have been invited to take part in GT2 in the rest of the 2006 season. We had to make sure that this decision is the right one and we needed to gather the right amount of data to be sure that action had to be taken. That data can only be acquired by generating results on the track in a competitive environment."

"I have spoken to Team Data Protection Solutions, who have entered for the full season in British GT," Franassovici continued, "and we hope that Ian (Stinton) will continue to participate in the championship."
