BARC / Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup Gathers Momentum
for 2007
14 June 2006
The BARC is pleased to announce that the proposed new series for production
based saloon and sports coupe cars has taken another huge leap forward
with the announcement of two new marketing partners.
Triple Eight Vehicle Engineering will produce a turn-key race car based
on the hugely successful Vauxhall Astra VXR and will assist the Series
Organisers in providing technical expertise.
EVO Magazine will assist the Series Organisers with promotion and publicity,
having already helped to create the class system of the series by use
of their published vehicle test data.
Dunlop have already committed their full weight to the new series by
taking headline sponsorship and promising a place on the 2007 Dunlop
Great and British Motorsport Festival meetings, and subject to support,
the associated television coverage.
BARC Competitions Manager Dale Wells said: "The BARC is enormously
grateful to Dunlop, Triple Eight and EVO for their unstinting support
of this project. It is some years since we have seen purist production
based racing in the UK and this has been sadly missed. We have an obligation
to bring top class motorsport to the masses and this is definitely one
way that we can achieve it. The current indications show us that we
already have 18 competitors who are intending joining us in a variety
of cars including: Renault Clio, Peugeot 106, MG ZS, Honda Civic Type
R, BMW 330, Mazda RX8, Citroen C4, Mini Cooper S, Volvo, MG ZR, Vauxhall
Astra VXR, Subaru, Ford Focus and Alfa Romeo 147. This is absolutely
fantastic."
